Shennong River originates from the main peak of Shennongjia and flows through the territory of Badong County, Hubei Province. It runs through deep mountain valleys from north to south and merges with the Yangtze River to the east of Wuxia mouth. Shennong River is a typical canyon stream, with tightly packed peaks on both sides and steep cliffs. The stream water collides between the sharp canyon walls, and the waterway is winding. The turbulent stream has more than 60 dangerous shoals, long beaches, curved shoals, and shallow shoals.
The landscapes on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are unique, combining "grandeur, beauty, danger, and wonder". Four gorge sections have been developed and utilized: Longchang Gorge, Parrot Gorge, Mianzhu Gorge, and Shennong Gorge. Among them, Longchang Gorge is known for its magnificence, Parrot Gorge for its elegance, Mianzhu Gorge for its danger, and Shennong Gorge for its uniqueness. There are mysterious Ba people's "hanging coffins" and rock coffin burial groups on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and traces of ancient boardwalks can be faintly seen. Along the way, one can explore the footprints of Ba people. The flat boats dot the stream, and the bowl bean horn wooden flat boats are the primitive transportation tools preserved for thousands of years in Shennong River. The Tujia boatman is the living fossil of the Ba people's boatman. The combination of Tujia ethnic culture and boatman culture is the connotation of Shennong River's tourism culture. Shennong River flows through three different scenic canyons - Mianzhu Gorge, Yingwu Gorge, and Longchang Cave Gorge. The scenery on both sides is breathtakingly beautiful, with few open spaces in the canyon, and the narrowest point where the two sides are only 7 meters apart. In the boat crossing gorge, it's like passing through a secluded alley with heavy gates. In the Mianzhu Gorge, known for its perilous terrain, there are numerous karst caves on the difficult to climb cliffs, huge stalactites hanging upside down in the sky, narrow riverbeds with large drops, and over 30 small and dangerous shoals within a 4-kilometer waterway. Drifting by boat relies entirely on the skills of the boatman. Parrot Canyon is the most beautiful among the three canyons, with vegetation hanging down like tassels on both sides, waterfalls and springs gushing out, and a series of wonders.
