Fengjie Xiaozhai Tiankeng Dijian Scenic Area is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River, 70 kilometers away from Fengjie County. It is bordered by Qutang Gorge in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River to the north, Enshi in Hubei Province to the south, and the Longgupo Ancient Human Culture Site in Wushan to the east. It is 37.5 kilometers long from east to west and 19.5 kilometers wide from north to south. It consists of five major scenic areas: Xiaozhai Tiankeng Dijian, Longqiao River, Maze River, Jiupan River, and Maocaoba. It is home to stone forests, peak forests, caves, depressions, Tianshengqiao, downspouts, funnels, and vertical shafts, accommodating all kinds of scenery.
The source of Jiupan River is located in Xiaozhai Tiankeng and Dijian, winding and twisting. The river is sometimes turbulent and sometimes gentle, like a jade belt winding endlessly between two mountains, with nine twists and turns, hence the name Jiupan River. The Jiupan River is divided into two sections. One section is the Jiupan River Canyon, which is about 17 kilometers from the entrance of the canyon to the high bridge. The other section is the Maze River, which is a small canyon in its original ecology with a total length of about 3 kilometers.
In the morning, a hazy white mist floated on the river, like a fairy bathing with a long veil; When the thick white mist covers the river, it looks like a white dragon shuttling through the canyon; At noon, the sunlight shines through, and the mountain and water shadows intertwine, as if entering a maze in the immortal realm; Early in the afternoon, it becomes quiet and peaceful. You can hear the sound of the river rushing, as if inviting you to talk. Colorful clouds occasionally drift over the mountaintop, and the steep mountains on both sides of the canyon are winding. The valley is shaded by green trees, with lush greenery and picturesque scenery, like a gallery.
The mountains ahead are shaped like lotus flowers, so the peaks are steep and towering, with a majestic atmosphere. The main peak is abrupt, surrounded by numerous peaks, like a new lotus blooming, looking up at the sky in full bloom, hence the name "Lotus Peak". About 30 kilometers behind the mountain is the famous site of the "Wushan people" in Longgupo, both at home and abroad.
The cliffs on both sides of this place are cut like knives, standing vertically and steeply, reaching a height of over 600 meters. A natural stone gate, over 400 meters wide, is formed between the two mountains, towering and majestic. Its shape resembles the Kui Gate of Qutang Gorge and is known as the "Dry Kui Gate". Two "Kuimen" appear in the same area, one "drought" and one "water", echoing each other from afar. It's really amazing.
The village in front of "Hankuimen" is called "Chair Village", also known as "Chair Flow". The terrain is like a Grand Tutor's Chair, and the "Chair" is full of terraced fields surrounded by pear and peach trees. In spring, pear and peach blossoms bloom brightly, with several farmhouses dotted among them and the sound of chickens chirping and dogs barking, creating a beautiful scenery of "Pear Source".
Currently, about 80 confirmed sinkholes have been discovered in the world, with over 50 of them located in China. The vast majority of sinkholes in China are located in the southern karst regions of Guizhou, Guangxi, and Chongqing. According to the principle of classifying sinkholes, those with a depth and width exceeding 500 meters are considered super sinkholes. There are only three cases in the world, all of which are in China: Chongqing Fengjie Xiaozhai sinkhole, Chongqing Wulong Houping sinkhole, and Shaanxi Hanzhong sinkhole group.
It's hard to imagine the wonder and emptiness of Xiaozhai Tiankeng without seeing it with one's own eyes. The Tianjingxia fissure and Xiaozhai Tiankeng belong to the same karst system. The Tianjingxia fissure is divided into upper and lower sections, with the upper section starting from Elephant Mountain in Xinglong Town and ending at the valley trough, about 8 kilometers long, and is a hidden fissure underground; The lower section from Tiankeng to Maze River is a dark cave about 6 kilometers long. The fissure is 37 kilometers long, 1-30 meters wide, and has a maximum depth of 900 meters, making it the longest fissure in the world.
The most essence of the ground fissure scenic spot is the "One Line Sky" landscape, which is 8 kilometers long. There are many "One Line Sky" landscapes in China, but only one can reach the length of 8 kilometers. Now, only 2.7 kilometers have been developed, and the travel time is about 3 hours.

General Rock
On the cliff on the left, a majestic man with an elephant head suddenly appeared. The locals said that this was a general who fought fiercely between the Ba Kingdom and the Qin Dynasty's army of tigers and wolves. Due to being outnumbered and retreating, he suddenly realized that a rock collapse was about to occur ahead. At this critical moment, he used his own body to block the collapsing rock and prevent the last line of the Ba people from being destroyed. The Ba people (now Tujia people) were moved by the selfless spirit of this general and called him "General Rock" to commemorate this great hero.
Mother Rock
