Yichang: List of Activities for the Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan's Hometown in 2019

June is approaching, and Zigui County in Yichang, as the hometown of Qu Yuan, will hold the "Qu Yuan Hometown Dragon Boat Festival Cultural Festival" and officially invite external tourists.

On the afternoon of May 21st, the press conference for the 2019 Qu Yuan Hometown Dragon Boat Festival was held in the urban area of Yichang. Spokesperson Wan Dan, Deputy County Mayor of Zigui County People's Government, introduced the relevant situation of the 2019 Qu Yuan Hometown Dragon Boat Festival to everyone.

In August 2014, with the approval of the National Leading Group for Cleaning up and Standardizing Festival Activities, the Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan's Hometown was designated as a national preserved festival event and will be held in Yichang City for a long time. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism also designated the "Qu Yuan's Hometown Dragon Boat Festival" as its only national Dragon Boat Festival cultural event.

What are the activities of the Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan's hometown?

The 2019 Qu Yuan Hometown Dragon Boat Festival, themed "Our Dragon Boat Festival, a Festival of the World," includes four sections: the opening ceremony and worship of Qu Yuan, the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage, the Dragon Boat Festival cuisine culture, and cultural tourism and economic exchanges, with a total of 14 sub activities.

Activity 1: Opening Ceremony of the Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan's Hometown

It will be held on the morning of June 6th at Qu Yuan Square in the cultural tourism area of Qu Yuan's hometown. Through a solemn and brief opening ceremony and worship ceremony for Qu Yuan, it fully showcases the unique Dragon Boat Festival customs and profound poetry and cultural heritage of Qu Yuan's hometown.

Activity 2: "Making Zongzi to Challenge Guinness World Records"

The activity of "Making Zongzi to Challenge Guinness World Records" was carried out with the theme of "Ten thousand 'Zongzi' to Build the Chinese Dream Together", demonstrating the determination of Zigui people to build the Chinese Dream together.

Activity 3: Dragon Boat Loong Boat Race

From June 5 to 6, with the theme of "Indulging in the Dragon Boat Festival and Endeavouring in Zigui", Zigui traditional staff Loong Boat race will be held, and staff representative teams and folk Loong Boat teams will be organized to carry out Loong Boat race activities.

Activity 4: Dragon Boat Festival Poetry Festival

On June 7th, members of the Sao Tan Poetry Society, poets from inside and outside the county, and poetry enthusiasts gathered in Lepingli, the birthplace of Qu Yuan, to showcase the unique charm of poetry.

Activity 5: Series of Literary and Artistic Exchange Activities

Renowned writers, painters, and photographers will be invited to Zigui to carry out sketching and creative activities, showcasing the charm and charm of Zigui.

Activity 6: Exhibition and Experience of Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance in Scenic Spots

From the first ten days of June to the first ten days of July, the traditional Dragon Boat Festival customs such as wrapping Zongzi, hanging wormwood leaves, bathing with wormwood leaves, wrapping sachets, making and smearing realgar wine will be displayed and experienced in Qu Yuan's hometown cultural tourism area.

With the theme of "Zongzi, Love Dragon Boat Festival Flavor, Zigui", we will create food districts in tourist areas such as Batou Park and Nanmen Square of Qu Yuan's Hometown Cultural Tourism Zone, focusing on enhancing the brand of "China's Hometown of Food".

Activity 9: "Zigui Flavor, the Hometown of Chinese Cuisine" Series Selection

From April to June, the "Top 10 Must Eat Dishes in Zigui" and "Top 10 Must Eat Snacks in Zigui" selection activities will be carried out.

From April to May, the "Top Ten Signature Dishes of Zigui Flavor" selection activity will be held to create Zigui's food brand and promote its unique food culture.

From June 4th to June 11th, a food carnival with the theme of "Zongzi Love Dragon Boat Festival Tasting Zigui" will be held to meet the needs of tourists and promote the development of tourism economy.

On June 8th, a fireworks display with the theme of "Ecological Huaxin · Charming Zigui" will be held on Muyu Island, creating a visual feast.

Activity 12: Cultural Exchange Event on "Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival in the Hometown of Qu Yuan, Descendants of the Qu Family on Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait"

We will invite Taiwanese compatriots to attend the opening ceremony, experience the customs and cuisine of the Dragon Boat Festival, feel the authentic Zigui Dragon Boat Festival, and enhance cultural exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.

From early May to the end of June, with the theme of "Food makes tourism more delicious", activities such as the Tourism Benefit Card Tour of Zigui, Rural Tourism Carnival, and Car Enthusiasts' Self Driving Club will be held to allow tourists to explore the beautiful scenery of Zigui, taste the unique cuisine of Zigui, and enhance the influence of Zigui's tourism brand.
