Want to visit the Three Gorges and know the difference between underground and upstream water?
Going into the water, as the name suggests, means taking a boat and going down the river. The flow of the Yangtze River is from west to east and eventually merges into the East China Sea. So the route from boarding at an upstream dock to disembarking at a downstream dock is launching. On the contrary, the route that goes upstream against the current is called upstream. Taking the route between Chongqing Chaotianmen Port and Yichang Port as an example, the route from boarding at Chongqing Chaotianmen Port to disembarking at Yichang Port is launching, while the route from boarding at Yichang Port to disembarking at Chongqing Chaotianmen Port is launching.
Whether it's going up or down the water, it's all about sailing by boat in the Three Gorges section of the Yangtze River, but the viewing angle is different. The Three Gorges of the Yangtze River start from Baidicheng in Fengjie in the west and end at Nanjinguan in Yichang in the east. Among them, the "magnificence" of Qutang Gorge, the "beauty" of Wuxia Gorge, and the "danger" of Xiling Gorge are the most prominent. Due to the need for water storage and improved navigation at the Three Gorges Dam, a high gorge and flat lake style reservoir area has now formed upstream of the dam, making the "danger" of Xiling Gorge a thing of the past. Therefore, taking a boat tour of the Three Gorges and embarking on the underwater route to enter Kuimen in Qutang Gorge from the beginning gives a more "stunning" feeling, and visiting the Goddess Peak in Wuxia also gives a more "sudden enlightenment" feeling. Visiting attractions such as Fengdu Ghost City and Baidi City is usually done in the morning, when the scenic spots are shrouded in clouds and mist, giving off a more ethereal aura. Throughout history, literati, scholars, and political figures have often chosen the waterway route to visit the Three Gorges.
The launching route takes slightly less time due to smooth sailing. For example, boarding and disembarking a cruise ship from Yichang at Chaotianmen in Chongqing takes 4 days and 3 nights for launching, while it takes 5 days and 4 nights for boarding and disembarking. Generally, boarding at Chaotianmen Pier in Chongqing city is convenient for transportation, while boarding at Maoping Pier, which is about 1.5 hours' drive from Yichang city, is required for water transportation, with relatively more restrictions on transfer. So everyone can choose between water and sewage routes based on their own time and the transfer of major transportation.
